In Short: An eco-friendly earphone with a warm, lush sound similar to the Brainwavz M2. The TS01’s brother, the TS02, is similar but with less bass impact and evened-out treble.
Thinksound prides itself in creating environmentally friendly products, something you can’t say about many tech companies. On this end, the housings are made of real wood and they look exquisite for such an affordable headphone. Although the legitimacy of Thinksound’s claim that the wood provides “a more natural resonance” is up in the air, there are at least no noticeable negative effects.
The Thunder’s sound is rich, thick, and bassy. The low end is smooth and soft and fits well with the ever-so-slightly recessed midrange. The low-end impact is not overwhelming, but it has enough power for the Thunder to be considered bass-heavy. The treble is uneven in places which leads to minor sibilance and harshness (foam tips will help with this), but this is arguably because of their contrast with the liquid lows and mids. The TS02 is absent of this quality at the expense of some bass heft.
The soundstage is not very wide or tall, but the layering is good and it has some depth which suits the sound signature nicely (again, very similar to the M2). Just going by my description you might think the TS01 is a niche headphone but it actually pairs well with all genres.
All in all, the TS01 is an impressive entry in the sub-$50 category and definitely merits a recommendation if you want a versatile earphone with a warm, cohesive sound.
