Thinking about the Brainwavz HM3 or Fischer Audio FA-004?

You may have saved yourself a few bucks and opened up your options at the same time! I have just discovered the Incipio F38 which is essentially a re-brand of the HM3 and FA-004.

The F38 comes in White, Black, Turquoise, Pink, and Espresso (pictured below), and is currently selling for around $30 on Amazon. Compare that to the HM3 which only comes in black and is selling for $60 (with an MSRP of $80!).

For those looking for good sound quality for the budget dollars, the F38 is a great option. It is marketed as a portable headphone but since it does not fold or have swivel cups, I find it hard to recommend as a portable solution. The sound is pretty balanced with a somewhat thick body and warmth to the mids and slightly in the bass. The F38 uses an over-ear design but the ear cups are rather small, so I suppose it could be on-ear if you have really big ears.

I was going to do a review of the HM3 but unfortunately I discovered a defect, so I had to settle for a first impressions post.

What do you think about this re-brand trickery?
