Headphones for safe biking

A technology originally developed for the military has made its way to the consumer market, intended for cyclists or any other street sport. These headphones make it especially easy to hear nearby sounds since nothing is blocking your ear canal – the sound is projected through your cheekbones! It is dubbed “Bone Conduction” technology.

The current versions boast about 15 hours of battery life, in-line volume control, and are water/sweat resistant. Another benefit is that they help prevent hearing damage to your eardrums that many people suffer from (often unknowingly).

Sound quality is apparently decent from what I’ve read. Of course it won’t match quality “normal” headphones, but it’s a give-and-take. You know, some people value being able to hear their surroundings and have conversations… 🙂

They are surprisingly affordable too, costing $60 or $70 depending on if you want an in-line microphone.

U.S. customers can learn more and buy them at the Aftershokz website. UK customers have them in the Chilli Technology flavor.
